Britain Hasn’t Got Talent
I didn’t watch the show on Saturday night. I had much better things to do!
But the way that everybody, and especially the media, has built up Susan Boyle and then dumped her from a great height has appalled me. I thought public executions ended in the mid-nineteenth century!
I have flagged this Entertainment. But it is not!
Dumped her? She got the No. 2 spot, didn’t she? Hell, hundreds of people didn’t even make the trials.
When you’re at that level of your craft, there really is very little difference between the top spots – just as in the Olympics, the winners are a matter not of seconds, but micro-seconds.
Ms. Boyle has obviously proved herself to be exceptionally talented; what she does with it now remains to be seen.

I was meaning the media had dumped her. We call it Tall Poppy Syndrome over here.
I suspect that if she’s well managed, she will make a lot of money.
She gets my best wishes for success. And I think that goes for most over here.

I have always hated talent shows, and I haven’t seen any of the latest crop of them that the media seem to think is so important that they report them as News!

I split these type of shows into two; those where there is a professional input or result, such as Strictly Come Dancing or What Can We Do About Maria, and the others, where members of the public are invited to make a fool of themselves.
It’s why I watch Who’s a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here and not Big Brother!
