How Not To Make Biofuel
Over the last few days, I’ve not had a computer with me and so a lot of little stories have been written down for adding to this blog.
This story is one of the most bizarre, as it recounts how a man blew himself up and destroyed his garage, whilst making his own biofuel.
The interesting point, is that you can make up to 2,500 litres of biofuel a year without tax. If your car does 45 miles to the gallon, then this will take you 25,000 miles. Note I chose 45 mpg, as this makes the maths simple.
Rubbish Biofuel
From The Times today.
The idea seems to be backed by a big company and they are talking of deliveries starting in 2010.
As the raw material is rubbish and it requires no changes to the delivery system, then it would seem that this may well be something that could solve some of our problems. I’ll be watching with interest.
Biofuel
I’m not a fan! Especially as I think that the rush for biofuel is putting up the cost of food and mainly to those that can’t afford it.
But!
I just found this article on the Internet. The concept is to grow plants using salt water in desert areas next to the sea and then use these plants to create biofuel. The salt goes back into the sea.
I ran it through a couple of my friends and they feel it does have promise. One geographer said that there are masses of desert areas, with loads of hot sun and sand next to the sea. He also said that it might be worth doing anyway, as it might change the climate for the better in some of the world’s most inhospitable places.
As my late husband once said, “Never underestimate the power of scientists and engineers to solve the most intractible of problems.”
Biofuel’s ‘Green Tax’ On Bread
An article in The Times yesterday says that Premier Foods, one of Britain’s largest food manufacturers is saying that as wheat prices have doubled in the last year, the prices of bread and other foods must inevitably rise.
And one of the reasons is biofuels.
To quote Premier Foods. “What you have is an environmental tax on food.”
This is crazy.
We need the tax on energy.
