Huffington Post On Sarah Palin

with 2 comments

I get a lot of visitors to this blog from the Huffington Post and occassionally I check what is going on.

This article on Sarah Palin is fascinating.

Here’s a paragraph :-

After only a few interviews with journalists Charlie Gibson and Katie Couric, America has learned how woefully uninformed and unqualified Palin is, sending her poll numbers in a decline as steep as Wall Street, and explaining why Palin is a shero to the crowds of rabidly uninformed people “scared” about the Supreme Court. They are scared about the Supreme Court because of lies they have been told by the anti-choice extremists about sexual and reproductive health for a generation. They are scared because of lies about abstinence-only actually working, lies about what comprehensive sex ed is, lies about gay people, lies about condoms and contraception, lies about why women choose abortion, lies about abortion causing breast cancer, lies about “post-abortion syndrome”, lies about late-term abortions, and lies about infanticide. All of these and more far-right myths are based on lies that motivate the same extremism and rage we see on display by the Palinistas now.

I do like the term Palinistas.

But do read the full article.

Just as we need solutions, where all politicians work together intelligently, to get us out of the mess we’ve been dropped in by bankers with too fertile brains and not enough to do, the Republicans choose the attractive Sarah Palin as a Vice Presidential candidate.

My views on Palin are coloured by her being in favour of teaching creationism.  Now if there’s a load of clap-trap it’s that.  At a time, when we need good science to help all parts of the world, we still have those who stick to outmoded religious beliefs, that have been disproved for centuries.

I also don’t like a lot of what I read about her; views on death penalty, global warming, contraception, medical research, oil exploration, inexperience etc.

It would be a disaster if she became Vice President and McCain died.

As an aside here, I’m always puzzled why religion plays such a large part in American politics.  Unless you are a committed Christian, it seems impossible to get on the ticket, whereas here, no-one seems to bother.  So the last two Prime Ministers have had strong religious beliefs, but I don’t think John Major or Margaret Thatcher were bothered one way or the other.  I can’t even remember any serious report on the latters beliefs.

Religion should be kept out of politics.

But to return to Palin.

Has her true nature been shown in the sordid little episode, where she may have got her former brother-in-law fired?

It does seem that someone has got on the wrong side of her spite.
